The Sailor Manyo Ink Bottle is a 50ml square glass bottle of Chigaya black fountain pen ink. This smooth-flowing water-based dye ink is specifically formulated to be safe for all fountain pens. Due to the nature of this particular ink, there can be slight variations in the color. Sailor's Manyo inks range is named for 'Manyosyu', the 'Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves', which is Japan's oldest and most revered anthology of poetry. It comprises over 4,000 poems written over a period of 400 years by people from all walks of life from emperors to farmers. Flowers are particularly relevant in Japanese culture and 1,500 of the poems relate to them. Sailor therefore decided to name the Manyo inks after flowers mentioned in this epic, centuries-spanning collection of poems.
Sailor pens was established in 1911 in Japan, becoming the first to produce fountain pens in their home country. They have subsequently built a first-class reputation in the manufacture of the highest quality nibs, with all parts made in their own factory in Hiroshima.
