To create different colours and textures, maki-e artists use a variety of metal powders including gold, silver, platinum, corals etc. Every fountain pen is hand-inlaid underneath several coats of Urushi lacquer, then burnished to sheen and visibility. Finally, multiple layers of ki-urushi are applied and polished many times until each Taccia Raden Ama-Iro is created. As it requires highly skilled craftsmanship to produce a Maki-e art work, a Maki-e fountain pen may take 3 months to a year to make. This limited edition pen is a unique piece of art signed by hand from the Urushi artist who made it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe design of this pen came from the scabbard of the Japanese Samurai sword and it is a perfect cylindric made with precious and high-quality ebonite.
