The Limited Editon - Taccia Ama-Iro Raden Jiu is a collection of fountain pens made with one of the most famous and appreciated maki-e technique. A very select and accomplished group of artists keep this tradition alive. To create different colours and textures, maki-e artists use a variety of metal powders including gold, silver, platinum, corals etc. Every fountain pen is hand-inlaid underneath several coats of Urushi lacquer, then burnished to sheen and visibility. Finally, multiple layers of ki-urushi are applied and polished many times until each Taccia Raden Ama-Iro is created. As it requires highly skilled craftsmanship to produce a Maki-e art work, a Maki-e fountain pen may take 3 months to a year to make. This limited edition pen is a unique piece of art signed by hand from the Urushi artist who made it.
The design of this pen came from the scabbard of the Japanese Samurai sword and it is a perfect cylindric made with precious and high-quality ebonite. The word Raden is made from Ra, which means the shellfish having the spiral shell, and Den, means the decoration by metal or shell. Maki-e art represents the best of the past and continues to inspire art tradition into the future.
Taccia Ama-Iro Raden Fountain Pen Jiu comes with Silver trim and has a Cartridge, Converter (Included) filing mechanism. It comes enhanced with a 14K Gold nib made by Sailor, Japan. All Urushi pens are sensitive to sunlight and should not be exposed to sun for a prolonged time. Available in nib sizes Extra Fine | Fine | Medium Fine | Medium | Broad | Zoom | Music.
